You must be joking! Read the first line of the screenshot on the display “A problem has been detected and WINDOWS has been shut down…”. It’s a mac booting Windows via boot camp. It’s windows being accurately emulated to 100%. All this does is show a dodgy windows operating system is capable of crashing any hardware.
Ok, having read your entire site (pretty much word for word to be honest) it made me laugh.
I have a variety of Vista, XP , Linux and Mac boxes which I troubleshoot (that’s my job as an in-house IT support technician). There’s over 100 machines in total. For us, Mac OS X has things which matter day to day…
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but have you ever actually sat down and compared a RECENT mac and a PC side by side? - I mean really? Compare OSX 10.5 to Vista (or windows 7) for ease of use, bloatware, responsiveness etc etc. That’s before we even start talking about viruses, spyware, addware which does not exist over in the ‘dark side’ of the apple world. As programmers, we can appreciate the work and efficiency of the mac os. Sure, OSX 10.1 > 10.3 was crappy - like Vista SP1 through to SP3, but 10.4 was lean and 10.5 is amazingly stable and error free (for all 79 mac users in the company).
As a comparison, we have 12 brand new, top specification PCs which are fully maxed out with ram, fastest quad core CPUs and various high performance graphics chipsets and obviously they are quick. Boot times with Vista were typically 20-35 seconds.
A standard 3Ghz Mac pro boots in 10-15 seconds and typically outperforms the PC counterpart (almost 2:1) when it comes to demanding multiprocessing tasks (composite 3D rendering and surface polytech algorithm generation).
Most, if not all programs are multi-platform these days and if a certain program is windows only, there are plenty of alternative programs (which actually look, perform and generally feel better to use than the competition). If we were ever forced to use a windows only driver for something, we could just flick the macs over to vista and go. (I am not talking about ‘boot camp’ as that’s a bit tedious having to restart and losing about 30 seconds of downtime), but using virtualisation software such as parallels (http://www.parallels.com/uk/products/desktop/) etc.
For the average home user, who may only care about games then you can’t say that these only work on windows. Even linux can run PC programs without emulation. (Wine/Crossover etc - A free version of Microsoft’s ‘base layer’ of windows)
Macs are more expensive and I absolutely hate their ‘mighty mouse’ as it’s another example of bad ergonomics. Plug in a £3 two-button usb mouse (from PC world) and you are good to go.
A huge part of the mac appeal for our company is the virtualisation side of things - Running XPSP3/Vista/SGI IRIX in OSX. Something which we originally looked to do on a PC box and found it just was not possible.
Can a Mac boot OSX and run vista in a new window? Yes, easy.
Can a PC boot vista and run OSX in a new window? No, not a chance.
Yes, the macs are more expensive however they can be switched at a touch of a button to effectively become (at last count) 3 different development platforms in 1 machine effectively saving money.
Really though, use what you want to get the job done. End of story, just make sure you have the facts and are basing your conclusions on up-to-date hardware and software.
This site is deliberately based on misinformation in order to balance the existence of similar sites on ‘the other side’ without any rationality, facts, logic or research whatsoever. Think of it as a counter propaganda machine. If you see a problem, flaw or error, it’s on purpose and done in order to emulate Mac fans. And yes, I use all three myself.
@georg
I’m running from ubuntu running on vista as we speak from sun virtualbox (so i can hack my archos 7 tablet), which i did not need to restart to activate.
I also have images of osx, os9, win98, win2000, NT3, fedora redhat, NeXT OS, old os2, and sun os. as an IT professional, you should already know about the many virtualizers on the market, not knowing brings your level of expertise in to question…..especially when you say “not a chance”.
your claim that you can run a virtualized windows game on a mac box and still have it run at a playable speed REALLY brings your expertise into question because these emulators dont support the same sort of direct hardware communication you get running native because you’re in a protected shell…not to mention the lack of full memory control.
for vistas bloat, you install a vlited (vlite.com) version with only what you need. you have the option of dumping the glass interface, and installing a custom theme in its place. after which, a pc will generally work faster than the mac.
as far as virii and spyware go, macs have less because they have a much smaller share of the market. when macs are as numerous as pcs, hackers will target them. that’s simple math and as an IT professional, you should have been able to figure that out.
that’s all i needed to say, i was just browsing through but i felt i needed to debunk these mac fanboy assertations.
oh, and @ webmaster: you’re just one of those snotty types of people that noone really likes. there’s really nothing to debunk with your posts since they’re just bland vitriol.
You know it’s 100% fake. PAGE_FAULT_IN_UNPAGED_AREA means you popped in a PC disk in a Mac and tried to install. PC doesn’t recognize your Mac file-system so it goes into bluescreen.
Cannot agree with Lanfer more than I already do. The pressure on windows is directly connected to their share of the market and this is prooven to be true. I read today that new trojans for mac are up and running (due to a increased share of the market). Hackers focuses on the biggest system for it gives them the biggest huntingground and the biggest chance to earn money. I don’t think mac will gain a bigger market ever because it’s illogical bying a mac which is 3 to 4 times more expensive than a pc but only has comparable specs (ram, processor and graphics card). Mac are for people who cannot treat a pc correctly, I know how to do and I have never had any sort of problem with it either.
Most mac users never see theese facts because most of them are blind fanatics, it’s fine for me because they only make fools of themselves…But they’re damn annoying.

Phew, I’m glad your blog is back up. For a while there I feared it had become unnecessary.

Dear Hilka,
Well done, detective. Use computers much?
